Basic Information
Deinococcus Radiodurans is a very unique species of bacteria. It was discovered in the Oregon Agricultural
Experiment Center by A.W. Anderson in a can of radiation spoiled meat. Deinococcus Radiodurans was found to
have survived the radiation and spoiled the meat. The bacteria form in pairs of tetrads.
Each bacterium always contains 4-10 spare DNA strands depending on its stage in growth. D.R. is usually soil or
feces based, but it has been found in other environments. D.R. is an extremophile, or it can survive many extreme and
harsh conditions. This website will go into depth on the function and future usage of Deinococcus Radiodurans.
