Journal – Tuesday 4th of Dec. 2007
Today was our first real day on the project. We established a timeline, and got a good bit of our research done. Through an unfortunate mishap, we had to create a new wiki (due to the fact Austin lost the password for the old one). This didn’t take too much time, but it didn’t exactly help either. Our research “enlightened” us a little bit about the species Deinococcus Radiodurans but I can tell we have a long way to go.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a little bit more productive. The last thing we need in a project like this is to fall behind schedule. I have already found a few new articles that we will use on Deinococcus Radiodurans, so that’s good; but I’m still not completely satisfied with them. I’m trying to use the reliable internet resources my school library offers me, but I can’t really find too much on this rare species of bacteria. We’ll just have to see what happens next.

Today I was unfortunately not able to work on my wiki during school hours. So after a long school day and swim practice, I finally got home to work on my wiki, as well as all the other homework I had yet to do. Fortunately, I have found a few more articles on D. Radiodurans, but I will have to evaluate and then cite them for them to count. I have yet to post any of this information on our webpage yet, but I would first like to edit it and what not. On the upside, I had the time to make a slideshow of famous sightings of D. Radiodurans. This slideshow took about an hour or so to completely put together, but it was worth it, kind of. I got the slideshow up on the page, but it somehow was showing three of the same slideshow. I went back to edit the page of everyhting but one slideshow and the title, but that didn't work. Oh well, I think we're still doing well.

Journal - Thursday 6th of Dec. 2007

Today I didn't bring much to the website itself; though I did update the links to "trim" the page which probably helped a little. I am trying to think of what else I could bring to the site other than information, which isn't on the top of my priority list. I liked my famous sightings slide for the page, but no other brilliant ideas have found their way in to my head.

Aside from this, I found a fantastic article from NASA having to do with the terraforming of mars with Deinococcus Radiodurans. I also found a quote or so concerning Mars+D. Radiodurans as well. Apparently D. Radiodurans is this bacteria that has this incredible ability to re-splice (repair) broken or damaged DNA strands. This makes D. Radiodurans nearly impossible to kill, making it possible for them to survive the inhospitable radiation on Mars.

I hate to admit it, but I spent no time today working on the website; it had been a long day and I guess I just never found time. I mean, it was Friday though, give me a break.

Journal - Saturday 8th of Dec./ Sunday 9th of Dec. 2007

Over the weekend I continued our research on D.R. I found a lot of articles, but I can't think of where to put the information. Our website looks great do far, but I still think it's reallt confusing. Hopefully by the time it is due we will have ironed out all the bad-ness. I have to cite and evaluate everything I use, which is a complete pain in the lower back. Anyways, I have been tinkering around with the websites functions and I have figured out how to download a picture on to this thing. It's pretty easy to get the hang of, but I can tell I have a lot to learn. Hopefully I'll finish the front page by monday like I'm supposed to, nut who knows...

Journal - Monday 10th of Dec. 2007

Uggggh. School today, and swim practice. Today was an exceptionally slow day and I still can't believe the week just started. I managed to drag my corpse of a body to my computer and type up an article on Deinococcus Radiodurans and the fact that they are planning to use it to terraform Mars. Truthfully, it was the worst article I have ever written. First of all it's written in the most complex and confusing way possible, and second of all its boring enought to put the energizer bunny to sleep. I'll try to edit it by tomorrow. Oh, yea, I found a really good picture for our front page too.

Journal - Tuesday 11th of Dec. 2007

Today I had swim practice at 6:00 am. After a 1 and 1/2 hour practice I dragged myself to school and had a normal day. When I went home to research more information on Deinococcus Radiodurans, I found a really cool soundbyte on Deinococcus Radiodurans and it's potential to help fight cancer and prevent aging. There was no way for me to download the soundbyte, but I learned some valuable information on fascinating Deinococcus Radiodurans... I did make a link to the soundbyte, but other then that, nothing else happened.

Journal - Wednesday 12th of Dec. 2007

Today I edited the website. Hopefully the articles are a little easier to understand. That is all.

Journal - Thursday 13th of Dec./ Friday 14th of Dec. 2007

Today(s) was probably the most productive so far. I edited and refined our entire website and evaluated all of our stuff. I finished the article I siphoned from that sounbyte I found Tuesday, it kicks butt. Apparently the stuff it uses to protect itself from radiation and what not is being researched so that sooner or later we cn use it to help fight cancer and prevent aging. Yea, its pretty deep.

Journal - Saturday 15th of Dec. 2007

Today we finished our webpage. We switched the articles around some, did some final editing, and finished it. We have a few more pictures and what not, and in the end I think we did a very good job. Travis really went to 6th gear in the fourth quarter, I was very impressed; job well done.
